We would name names if we wanted glory.

May 24th, 2011

Clients often hire us for our “behind the scenes” creative firepower. And the names we’ve worked with this year are more impressive than ever. Since our inception in 1999, Zeh Arndt Creative has created a nice niche by being able to provide strategic and creative services for clients of all sizes – in all forms. For some clients, we’re a full-service shop delivering everything from research and strategic development to creative development and production, media planning/buying, results analysis and more. For others, we’re an extension of their creative department. For many, we’re somewhere in between. When agencies are stumped or swamped, we’re modest enough to jump in and avoid stepping on toes. When direct clients have had it with their current agency or their internal team needs a hand, we’re nimble enough to respond like firefighting ninjas. And for three advertising agencies from Tampa to New York, we have provided the creative chops and management charisma to help them start from the ground up. No matter the scenario we’re happy to simply do great work for good people. That’s glory enough for us.

ZAC Helps Bring the SSC to Brighthouse

March 7th, 2011

“Eckerd College and the rest of the Sunshine State Conference teams play great basketball and very few people know it. We need to do something about that.”, Brian Arndt – May 2010

What began as a desire to help raise awareness for St. Petersburg’s Eckerd College basketball team, culminated last week with Brighthouse Sports Network’s live broadcast of the men’s and women’s finals of the Sunshine State Conference’s basketball championship.

Working with Sunshine State Conference (SSC) commissioner, Jay Jones, and Brighthouse Network’s, John Maples, ZAC president Brian Arndt brought the two entities together and helped start a relationship that shows great promise for future broadcasts of SSC games. “It makes great sense strategically and financially for everyone,” said Arndt. “The level of play is exciting, and NCAA Division II has a great saying that sports are the front porch to their schools. It’s often the first experience someone has with their college. Well, the SSC front porch has everything you’re looking for – a fun, friendly, family experience. And with Brighthouse Sports Network’s commitment to local sports programming this is a great fit.”

The SSC basketball finals carried live from Florida Tech on March 6th saw Florida Southern defeat Floria Tech for the women’s title, and Rollins defeat Eckerd for the men’s title.

Today’s Tiger Woods Nike Ad launched during the opening round at the Masters is a brilliant example of crisis management 101: go directly towards your crisis, address it and leverage it. More public figures, companies and brands should take note of the public discussion around this simple engaging idea of learning from a mistake. Whether you agree with the message or not doesn’t matter. Tiger and Nike have recaptured control of his brand, and given him the ability to play through.

Maybe Your Cousin’s Friend’s Brother Shouldn’t Design Your Logo

February 22nd, 2010

Last November, I gave a speech about Branding on a Budget to a room of 100 entrepreneurs at a Kickstart Training workshop presented by Michelle Bauer and Common Language. I opened my presentation at the USF St. Petersburg College of Business by giving a quick definition of a brand.

I explained that at Zeh Arndt Creative we believe your brand is everything. It is your image, your voice, the first and last impression you communicate to anyone and everyone that comes into contact with you and your business. Your brand is incredibly important and should be given as much consideration as you will give your business plan.

This led to a quick story about a multi-million dollar company looking to rebrand themselves, but whose owner was determined to use a logo that a relative had created for them… with Microsoft Word.

Now, your cousin’s friend’s brother or your receptionist or office manager may be really nice, and they may have done a great job picking out clip art for your first newsletter. However, unless he or she is an experienced brand professional you probably do not want to entrust the development of your brand to someone searching for a piece of clip art and a funky typeface.

We wouldn’t want one of our art directors to do our taxes. Why? That’s not their profession. That’s not where their talents lie. Sure they might be able to fill out a form (and they would likely use a really nice font and soothing color scheme), but our certified accountant would be the best person to maximize our returns as that is their profession.

Likewise, your office manager may know enough about Photoshop and Illustrator (or even Word) to be dangerous, but when it comes to developing or refining your brand, it’s best to hire a professional agency with years of experience that will work with you to develop a comprehensive Vision Plan to guide your brand’s development. My apologies to all Cousin’s Friend’s Brothers.

ZAC Newswire?

February 15th, 2010

Now that our site is up and running, and our social media connections are firing, you’ll see our team sending out insightful, helpful and hopefully meaningful info you can use. For a daily (hourly, if something really cool happens) pulse of Zeh Arndt Creative, our clients and partners, follow our Twitter feed and Facebook page. For weekly agency news check out this blog. But if something really cool happens, it’ll be everywhere including our home page.

But the serious question is should we brand our agency news wire with a cool name? If so, what should it be?

Have a great week,
